The Gray Area in Being: Reconnecting to God and Yourself

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years of coaching it’s this…

There’s a quiet ache that lives inside many of us. It’s a feeling that something’s missing, even when life looks good on paper.

It’s not burnout. It’s not lack of success. It’s disconnection.

When you’re disconnected from your Creator and from yourself, everything else in life feels a little off. You can push, perform, and achieve… but without a grounded sense of being, it all feels hollow.

This is the second Core 4 area where the gray hides — the space of Being.

Your Tonic for the Week

The gray in Being doesn’t show up as obvious chaos. It sneaks in through overachievement, endless doing, or constant distraction. It whispers, “You’re fine,” while your soul quietly starves.

You might notice it as:

  • A lack of peace, even when everything seems “good.”
  • Difficulty sitting still or being present.
  • Doubt, resentment, or guilt that something spiritual is missing.

Every client I’ve ever worked with eventually finds their way to this truth: if you’re not right with God and yourself, nothing else works as it should.

Without that connection, purpose becomes blurry. Identity feels shaky. And the gray starts to grow.

But when you do lean in, when you slow down long enough to listen, something shifts. The noise fades. The striving softens. You begin to hear that still, small voice reminding you who you are and what you’re here for.

It’s not about religion. It’s about relationship. It’s about remembering you were never meant to do this life on your own strength. And isn’t that good news? Yes, I believe so wholeheartedly.

Your Next Move

This week, take five minutes each day to reconnect with your source, whatever that looks like for you.

It might be:

  • A few deep breaths of gratitude before your day begins.
  • Quiet reflection or prayer to ask for direction.
  • Reading something that brings your heart back home.

If this feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar, that’s okay. You’re simply rebuilding the most important relationship you’ll ever have — the one with your Creator and your true self.

Even planting one small seed of awareness is enough. Just keep watering it.

What I’m Loving

  • Grace Oasis on YouTube — my favorite morning ritual, a gentle encouragement and truth to start the day right.
  • The Chosen & The House of David — two beautifully made TV series that bring scripture to life in relatable ways.
  • The Bible Widgets App — bite-sized inspiration throughout the day. This one’s been a total game-changer for me!

The gray area in Being is the most deceptive of all, my friend. Why? Because on the outside, everything can look “fine.” But inside, something feels off.

If that’s you right now, know this: you’re not forgotten. You’re lovingly being invited back into connection.

When your heart and spirit are aligned, every other part of life starts to fall into place. I know this firsthand, as well as witnessing it with each of my clients.

Next week, we’ll move into the third Core 4 area: Balance, your relationships and the deeper connections that make life meaningful. You don’t want to miss it.
